Working in Nelson
Nelson is stone terraces, most of them garden fronted, built fast when the weaving sheds were going and built well. The stone means openings that have shifted over a century and rarely come out square, which is fine if whoever measures them knows that going in. There are four conservation areas across the town, all different in character, from the Lomeshaye Industrial Hamlet to Edge End and St Mary's. A lot of our Nelson work is a full house at once rather than one or two windows, because when a street was built together it tends to fail together.
