Working in Rawtenstall
Rawtenstall is stone terraces in a narrow valley, most of them Victorian and most built after the 1875 Public Health Act, which is why you get larger through terraces here rather than the back to backs that came before. Older survivals sit around Fallbarn Fold and Daisy Hill, weavers' cottages predating the mills. The valley sides mean a lot of properties are on a slope, which affects how an opening has settled and rarely in a way you can guess at. Materials are looked at closely inside the conservation areas.
