Windows and doors fitted across Ramsbottom

Ramsbottom is administratively part of Bury but you would never guess it from the buildings. The valley is stone, and the conservation area is largely two storey stone and slate terraces sitting right on the back edge of the pavement with narrow roads between them, which makes for tight working and tighter access. The town grew from the eighteen twenties under the Grant family and the older core has been protected since 1977. Holcombe up the hill is stone village again. Bury town itself, fifteen minutes away, is a different material entirely.
