Windows and doors fitted across Clitheroe

Clitheroe is not a weaving town and the housing is older and more mixed for it. The core is medieval, laid out on long narrow burgage plots around Castle Street and Lowergate, with buildings fronting straight onto the pavement and ashlar stonework on anything prominent. The Victorian terraces on Moor Lane and York Street came later and sit differently again. There are 116 listed buildings in the town, most of them inside a conservation area that has held outstanding status since 1979.
