Working in Barrowford
Barrowford is not a mill town in the way Nelson and Burnley are, and the housing shows it. The village runs in a line along the main road and a good deal of it is seventeenth and eighteenth century, farmhouses and handloom weavers' cottages with the mullioned openings that go with them. There are three separate conservation areas here, plus listed buildings around the Heritage Centre and the canal locks. That means a fair amount of what we quote for is careful replacement rather than straight swap, and we are used to it because we live here.
