Working in Bury
Bury sits off the Pennines on the Manchester plain, so the terraces are brick rather than stone and there is far more inter-war and post-war housing than in the mill towns. The town centre has large four storey stone and brick terraces along The Rock, most of them late Victorian with the upper floors much as built. Head north and the character changes completely: Ramsbottom, Holcombe and Summerseat are stone Pennine settlements inside the same borough. Worth knowing which side of that line you are on before comparing quotes.
