Windows and doors fitted across Barnoldswick

Barnoldswick is stone on stone. Sandstone walls, and unusually sandstone roofs too, the stone flags rather than the Welsh slate that covers most of Pendle. What that means on the ground is roofs at a noticeably low pitch, which is the first thing you notice and the thing that changes any work near a roofline. The town is mostly two and three storey nineteenth century, grafted onto a street pattern that goes back much further, with the character in the back alleys and the human scale rather than in ornament. There is very little decoration to match.
